What is richard alpert?

Richard Alpert, also known as Ram Dass, was an American spiritual teacher, author, and psychologist. He was born on April 6, 1931, in Boston, Massachusetts. Alpert received his Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University in 1957 and became a professor at Harvard University. In the 1960s, Alpert explored psychedelic drugs such as LSD and psilocybin, which led to his interest in spirituality and meditation.

In 1967, Alpert traveled to India where he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba. He was given the name Ram Dass, meaning "servant of God." Alpert returned to the United States as a spiritual teacher, lecturing and writing books about spirituality and meditation. His most famous book, "Be Here Now," was published in 1971 and became a bestseller.

After suffering a stroke in 1997 and experiencing spiritual insight, Ram Dass focused on end-of-life care and founded the Hanuman Foundation, which supports spiritual and humanitarian projects.
